Last year, I wrote simple stand-alone FORTRAN routines to read 1-D
or 2-D ASCII U-files.  I have just installed these routines and their test
program on the ITER file server:

workstation:  ftp picard.iterus.org
user:         iter
password:     iter-eda
directory:    /pub/profile_data/software/server_to_users	
file:         ufile_read.tar

        Within the file ufile_read.tar is the file README which explains what
the rest of the files are.  The routines that read ASCII U-files are
u1read.f and u2read.f   Doug McCune looked at these files during November
1994 and agreed that they were a good idea.
