JET_35171_com.dat = comments file for ITPA WDB Profile Database submission Tokamak: JET Pulse number: 35171 Shot description, purpose of the shot: ELMy H-mode with high gas fueling Contact persons: Robert Budny, Jef Ongena, Xavier Garbet Institution: EFDA-JET Date of shot: 19950518 Time of interest = 25.87s (65.87s in JET PPF time) for steady state Analysis codes: TRANSP and EFIT (for plasma boundary) Run number: 35171C04 at PPPL Date of analysis: 20051107 TRANSP run by Robert Budny (budny@princeton.edu) ITPA Profile Database datasets originally prepared by Pam Stubberfield, Bernard Balet and Knud Thomsen JET, August 1995 and re-issued in July 1996. This is a replacement with a new TRANSP run using fresh data and updated variables Additional information: JET shot 35171 is an ELMy H-mode shot obtained in the new JET pump divertor configuration. This pulse ( 1T, 1MA ) is part of a series of rho* scaling experiments relevant for ITER. Plasma is deuterium. The plasma is in a single- null X-point configuration with the ion gradB drift pointing towards the X-point. Re-processed NBI data giving approximately 10% more power in the 140KV/D beams was used in the TRANSP simulation. Some 2.9MW of 80KV/D and 1.9MW of 140kV/D neutral beam heating is turned on at 22 secs for 4 secs. Sawteeth events are not taken into account in the simulation for redistribution of the fast ions and of the current. The direction of the toroidal field and plasma current were in the normal JET direction - clockwise viewed from above. In the file JET_35171_0d.dat data is given at 25.87 secs. At that time, there is 4.8MW of beam heating and the plasma is in a steady ELMy H-mode phase. In jet_35171_2d.dat the deuterium density is stored in NM1, trace H in NM2, and trace T in NM3. NM4 contains the carbon density being the majority impurity species. Values for kappa and delta in the 0d, 1d and 2d files are from the TRANSP output derived from the boundary input definition provided by EFIT. kappa = (Zmax-Zmin)/(Rmax-Rmin); delta = (RGEO - R(Zmax))/a XPLIM and SEPLIM from XLOC as defined in the standard list of variables. The 1d files for IP,VSURF and IBOOT have negative values as normal for JET. Some comments on this particular TRANSP run 35171 25ms analysis time resolution for the ESC equilibrium (LEVGEO = 7). Up-down asymmetric boundary definition obtained from the EFIT program Ti and v_phi, profiles are from CX measurements. There were difficulties with these measurements, so there are extra uncertanties with their values. The Z_eff profile cannot be deduced from the measurements, so a flat Zeff was assumed with values inferred from a chordal view. Te and Ne profiles vs. radius is from LIDAR measurements. Edge recycling and gas puffing used for particle balance to compute particle fluxes. The TRANSP run 35171C04 gives a simulated W_dia 15% lower than the measured and a simulated neutron yield agrees well with the measured rate.
